Precart is a VirtueMart 1.1 customization Joomla 1.5 compatible.

Precart is an extension that allows you to create a customized quote for every VirtueMart product. Thanks to our big experience with VirtueMart, we created a strongly integrated tool, particularly powerful, to built products with lot of features, which you can calculate price before purchase.

Precart was orginally born for digital print firms needs, and that's the reaswon why it is so suitable for this, but its flexibility give it really suitable for every product with a lot of features about colours, measures, weight, as well as travels and services

Technical information

One of the main needs for VirtueMart is to generate quotes, or to change product configuration and see the final price before the pruchase. You also may need an advanced features definition, to manage a complexe calculation scheme.

We examined a lot of solutions, essentially based on external tools or on heavy VirtueMart modify.

Instead we decided to base our work on three main guidelines:

1. It is strongly integrated with VirtueMart

   it isn't a separate extension, but a customization of VirtueMart, using some additional files to have a version that support a real time quote, so you don't need to have a double management of products, prices, features, because functions and calculations are the same used by VrtueMart.

2. It is minimally invasive

   Technically you add only a few codes: where it was possibile we built new connection between existing functions and views. This guarantees the best compatibility for actual and future VirtueMart upgrades.

3. It is flexible

   We created Precart thinking about different utilization, so we didn't focus on specified parameters combinations. You need a little learning to use it, but then it allows you to adapt your system to a great combination of calculation and prices. We have  Above all we designed a module to visualize preemption, a plugin that helps you to put in order and to elaborate features, and a Javascript where you can easily set up every customized operation like:
4. calculate a filed value based on other field values
5. show a notice or error message based on another field value
6. visualize or hide fields based on another filed value

Actually Javascript modify is totally manual. This for giving you the best flexibility, even if you need  a sort of technical competence. Anyway we are developing a second version to semplify this process, so you can select operations and fields straight from Joomla Panel.

Graphic adaptation

We didn't insert any particular style in customization: we built HTML code with sensible ID and classes so you can easlily personalize it with CSS. Style management is made by  customer.
